Common Bladderwort

Habitat: Floating-leaved to submersed plant community; most abundant in areas that are protected from wave action.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

· Floating stems that support finely-divided branching leaves

· Bladders that are scattered along the branches are transparent or green tinted, darkening to brown or black as the plant ages

· Flowers are yellow and grow on stalks that emerge from the waters surface

· Carnivorous plant

· Lacks true roots

Look alikes include: fanwort , and other species of the water-milfoil genus.
