Habitat: Emergent to floating-leaved plant community, thrives in nutrient rich areas.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

· Water Lily-like plant with small, oval shaped leaves

· Leaf stalks attach to the middle of the floating leaves

· Leaves have a green surface and a purple underside

· A thick, gelatinous coating covers all submersed portions of the plant

· Produce purple flowers on a stalk that emerges above the surface of the water

Look alikes include: European Frogbit and Yellow Floating Heart.
